Homemade Herbal Tea

I’m all about trying natural remedies to stay healthy and keep the immune system strong. Whenever I’m feeling like my body is under the weather or I’m coming down with something I put the coffee on hold and turn to herbal teas. There are so many foods that have positive benefits for our health but many of them don’t get incorporated into our daily meals and spices are one of them, so what better way to experience their taste and benefits than with homemade herbal tea.

This herbal tea was a concoction I made up a few weeks ago and found myself drinking a whole pot in one evening, clearly my body was craving something that’s in it. These herbs have been used in ancient medicinal practices and are known to have various benefits from improving circulation, assisting with digestion, regulating the urinary system, treating infections, reducing inflammation, balancing emotions, cleansing the liver and boosting the immune system.

The amount of each spice is really up to you, adjust it to suit your taste buds and needs. I tend to put in a bit more ginger because I like the taste of it and a little more turmeric than most would like only because of its anti-inflammatory properties. You can use the below as a starting point and then adjust from there.

Homemade herbal tea ingredients:

  • tangerine peels (orange peels can also be used) – about three or four
  • ginger – 2cm of the root or half a teaspoon of ginger powder
  • goji berries – one tablespoon
  • cinnamon – half a cinnamon stick or half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • aniseed – one star
  • cardamom – just one
  • turmeric – half a teaspoon
  • lemon – one slice

Directions for this homemade herbal tea:

Throw it all into a tea pot, pour boiling hot water over it and let it steep for a few minutes. Add a slice of lemon into your mug and then pour the tea over it.
